Hawkvids

I've never seen Hawkwind (or related artists) live and have never seen any videos/DVDs. I've always read what an experience the live performances can be and occasionally see videos (legal or otherwise) available. However, considering that they are one of the most irresponsibly packaged bands in history, I'm wary as to forking over cash for any. Can anyone recommend any of the videos that float around in the ether? Or at least give honest opinions on the ones they've seen? Please tell me what you know of any of the offshoots too.

These might sound like stupid questions to old school Hawkwind fans but are they still going? I have heard rumors of shows. What was the last new cd they released?

Where to find the rarer Hawkwind titles?

You can import some of the releases straight from the UK via the 'Hawkwind Shop'. You can link to it from:
http://www.hawkwind.com

or go straight to it here:
http://www.101cd.com

You can get the current exchange rate for british pounds at:
http://www.xe.com/ucc

I ordered my copy of 'Hall...' from them (I live in the U.S.) and got it in two weeks. The price was actually slightly lower than what amazon was charging at the time (including postage). This won't always be the case, but with the rarer titles it may actually turn out cheaper to do it this way. Try it for yourself.

Another good source for Hawkwind and for Import prog in general is Wayside Music:

Fave albums

My collection is far from complete, but so far my favorite albums are Palace Springs and Space Ritual. Palace Springs really cliqed with me and allowed me to initial access to hawkspace; both the presence of Simon House's violin and Bridgett Wishart's vocals make this an interesting one.

Space Ritual is a classic monster. Lemmy's bass blows me away--he's like the nuclear propulsion force that drove that band to such frenzied heights. Plus the original multi-paneled album cover is great.

All in all, I enjoy each period of the band.
Tell us about your faves.
